Austria: Fully-Funded Austrian Government Scholarship for International Students, 2017/18

About Scholarship: Foundation of the Republic of Austria is offering scholarships for international students (except Austrians). Applicants who are descendants of forced laborers (regardless of their country of origin) or people coming from countries that have suffered exceptionally from the Nazi regime, especially from the recruitment of forced laborers. Scholarships are awarded to pursue research on their diploma or master thesis or their dissertation at scientific research institutions in Austria.

Applications are accepted for the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria for grants and research promotion for Undergraduate, Masters & PhD students. Scholarships are also awarded for research periods at scientific research institutions in Austria (e.g. universities, Austrian Academy of Sciences, National Library, National Archive).

No scholarships are awarded for Bachelor, Master or Doctoral/PhD studies pursued in Austria, summer courses, language courses, clinical traineeships or internships. The scholarship grant is for research.

Applicants must not have studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the grant.

  1. monthly scholarship installment: 1050 EUR
  2. Accident and health insurance: if necessary, the OeAD (Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) will effect an accident and health insurance. The costs for the insurance have to be covered from the scholarship.
  3. The OeAD provides scholarship holders with accommodation (student dormitory or apartment). Monthly costs: 220 to 470 EUR (depending on the level of comfort requested by the scholarship holder). The scholarship holder has to pay an administrative fee of 18 EUR/month to the OeAD for the provision of accommodation. The costs for the accommodation have to be covered from the scholarship.
  4. Applicants from countries which are neither members of the EU nor members of EFTA, EEA or OECD can be granted a travel allowance. The lump sum depends on the country of origin.

  • two letters of recommendation from university lecturers. For these letters of recommendation no specific form is required; they have to contain the letterhead, date and signature of the person recommending the applicant and the stamp of the university / department and must be no older than six months at the time of application
  • confirmation of supervision by a supervisor at the chosen Austrian university, university of applied sciences or research institution
  • scanned passport (showing the name and picture of the applicant)
  • university graduation certificate of your diploma, master, PhD or doctoral studies at a university outside Austria resp. proof of enrollment at a study programme at a university outside Austria
  • confirmation, that proves your participation in a study programme (Bachelor, Master/Diploma or PhD) at your home university
  • for descendants of forced labourers: processing number or photocopy of the letter of information or other relevant proofs.

100% Scholarships Less Privileged Foreign Students – 2018. A Japanese based, non-for-profit institution, Ashinaga, is offering a range of fully funded scholarships to students who are considered as ‘poor’, less privileged and maybe orphans.   • Spring semester scholarship recipients will receive the scholarship only for the Spring and Summer semesters. Applications are being accepted for Australian National University Excellence Scholarship Program to study at the ANU in Semester 1, 2018. These scholarships are available exclusively for international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The initial award of $5,000 will be paid to the recipient, in one installment, after the Semester 1 census date. Chinese Government and African Union Fully Funded Scholarships for African Students, 2017/18

The Chinese government, through the African Union is offering scholarships to young Africans to study varying courses at various universities in China.

Value of Program: The scholarship will cover the cost related to teaching and the administration of the university and the living expenses of the students from the fund of the foreign aid, supervising thesis.

  • The cost related to teaching includes tuition, teaching materials, field trips and study tours.

The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional all-round students at the University of Oxford. Established in the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world.

The following eligibility criteria apply to all applicants for the Rhodes Scholarships

Education: All applicants must have achieved academic standing sufficiently advanced to assure completion of a bachelor’s degree by the October following election. Academic standing must be sufficiently high to ensure admission to the University of Oxford, which has very competitive entry requirements, and to give confidence that Rhodes Scholars will perform to a high academic standard in Oxford. Individual constituencies may specify a 1st or equivalent. Some constituencies require an undergraduate degree to have been taken within the constituency of application.

Age: Age limits vary between constituencies and range from a minimum age limit of 18 to a maximum of 28 by 1 October of the year following selection. In most constituencies, the age limit is 24 or 25. Please check carefully the specific age requirements for your constituency before applying. Successful candidates will arrive in Oxford the October following the selection process. The Scholarship may not normally be deferred.

Study in USA? EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) for Undergraduate and Graduate Nigerian Students 2017

There are many determined and talented, low-income students in Nigeria who only require financial resources and access to information to better their educational future. For the 11th year, the United States Embassy, Nigeria seeks to identify academically qualified and highly motivated, low-income students in Nigeria to join the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP).

OFP’s mission is to assist talented and determined, low-income students who are good candidates for financial assistance from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front cost of obtaining admission.

OFP works closely with students through regularly scheduled meetings and seminars to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and scholarships to attend colleges and universities in the United States. OFP finances the cost of the application process, including registration fees for required standardized examinations and provides free membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center for its participants. OFP expects a sincere commitment from the students to give their energy and time to the program so that they may achieve their dreams of study in the United States.
